Power firm to develop solar power project in Clark

As published on Malaya

Listed power firm MRC Allied Inc. said its affiliate company, SunRay Power Inc. (SPI), has received solar service contracts from the Department of Energy for the development of the 100 megawatts (MW) solar project in New Clark City. The company said the P8.5 billion power plant is currently being developed by SPI and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) in a 256-hectare property.

“We are excited to do this solar project in partnership with BCDA and we are looking at doing more projects with them as part of our long term plans. The success of this project would be another proof that the private sector and the government can actually work hand in hand towards achieving a common goal – the creation of cleaner, greener, more sustainable communities,” SPI president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. The company is optimistic about the project, which is seen to be beneficial in the area as New Clark City is expected to have five major districts covering the government; central business; academic;agri-forestry research and development; and wellness, recreation and eco-tourism. Last month, MRC and UniSolar Inc. (USI) also signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract for a 4 MW solar photovoltaic rooftop project with Xentro Mall. Under the contract, MRC will engage the services of USI to design, supply, deliver, install, test and commission solar rooftop projects in various Xentro Malls nationwide. MRC plans to develop at least 1,000 MW of renewable energy by 2022 that would require investments of about P80 billion to P100 billion.
