BCDA partners with Sunray Power, Inc. for P11.75-billion solar project

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), Sunray Power, Inc.(SPI) and its majority shareholder Menlo Renewable Energy Corp. recently launched a partnership in building a 100-megawatt (MW) solar power facility worth P11.75 billion in Clark Green City.

The Sunray’s 100MW Solar Power Project will stand as a renewable energy facility that BCDA and SPI hope will serve as a motivating force for more green and smart technology development centers to come about.“We at SPI are very enthusiastic about the long standing partnership we’ve had with BCDA. Solar is the power of the future and we will continue to work together to provide clean and renewable energy not only to Clark Green City but through our other projects in Central Luzon as well,” said Salvador Zamora, chairman, Sunray Power, Inc. and Menlo Renewable Energy Corp.

Investing in harnessing solar power will not be the only facet of this project as both groups will also invest in training young Filipinos to become adept in navigating green and smart technology. “Apart from mitigating the effects of climate change and global warming, the Sunray 100MW Solar Power Project also helps the local economy of the area as it is projected to provide employment for 1,000 workers during construction and at least 250 workers during operations,” says Vivencio Dizon, BCDA president and CEO.

BCDA is implementing the Clark Green City Project, a flagship project of the government. Clark Green City, a metropolis spanning 9,450 hectares, is set to rise within the 36,000-hectare property north of the Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone. Sunray has a lease agreement with BCDA for two hundred sixty (260) hectares in Clark Green City for the solar project. Once fully completed, Clark Green City is expected to be home to 1.2 million residents and will open the doors to around a million jobs. Clark Green City is predicted to contribute P1.57 trillion a year to the national economy, an almost 4% share of the country’s GDP.

In this planned city landscape is touted to be a new urban core north of Manila that will host businesses, domestic and international trade, conferences, research development entities, regional tourism centers, national government offices, and international headquarters.

Sunray Power is a Philippine corporation that specializes in the development of utility-scale solar electric power generating facilities for the production, generation, sale and storage of electricity harnessed from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and waste-to-energy technology.
